Association buildingSMART Polska in the international structures of the organization buildingSMART

On June 5, 2019, Association buildingSMART Polska and buildingSMART International entered into an agreement regarding the formation of the Polish branch of the organization. The signed agreement recognizes the Association buildingSMART and officially gives it a rank of the national branch of that international organization.

‘The official inclusion the buildingSMART Polska Association in international structures is the culmination of our more than one-and-a-half-year efforts. At that period we were determining the shape of the Polish organization, the way it should function and the areas on which we should work first. We strongly believe that we should change the model of cooperation between the participants of the construction process and in particular that they should co-operate more. I hope that we will be able to focus a large group of companies and people around the idea of openBIM, so that BIM on the construction site is primarily a source of benefits, not a contract requirement,’ says Leszek Żelaśkiewicz, Member of the Board and Technical Office Director at Warbud SA and Member of the Council of the Association buildingSMART Polska constituting a supervisory body.

BuildingSMART is an independent, international non-profit organization which develops, standardizes and provides technological solutions for BIM data exchange: IFC, BCF, bSDD constituting the so-called openBIM, in order to improve communication in the investment process as well as in the operation phase.

‘The Polish branch of the Association gives us hope to create a forum for the actual creation of synergies between the existing individual activities in the field of BIM undertaken by construction companies operating on the Polish market,‘ added Jacek Boruc, Member of the Board of the newly established branch, Deputy Director at Warbud SA Technical Office.

BIM technology allows engineers to eliminate errors related to the lack of documentation consistency, incorrect interpretation of design solutions, work on various data resources, which in the traditional approach (two-dimensional drawing documentation and accompanying descriptive documentation) are difficult to identify. BIM also allows for better communication and exchange of data between all participants of a given investment process, both at the global level: investor, designer, general contractor, as well as local level: architect and designers of individual branches.

Currently, 11 companies operate in the Association. Warbud's active participation is another step towards building an innovation culture in our company and the technological development of the construction industry.

BIM (Building Information Modelling) - a technology based on digital data used in construction, in all phases of the investment life cycle (planning, design, implementation and operation). In BIM technology, the main source of information is a 3D model whose elements are virtual replicas of real elements with an information zone about their physical and functional features (element properties).
