Warbud wins a VINCI football tournament in Montesson

This has been the first case in the history of the tournament that the VINCI cup was won by a team from outside France. The football tournament organised for a number of years in Montesson near Paris this year turned out to be victorious for Warbud. After five years of hard struggle after which the Warbud team was eliminated in the quarterfinals - on 22 June 2018, the team reached the final and won the whole tournament. They did in in a fantastic style! Our team competed against 21 teams from French and foreign VINCI Group companies, including a team from Great Britain and a team from Africa consisting of players from Mali, Senegal and Sudan.

Taming the system

The tournament is governed by strict rules. In the beginning four 6-team groups compete in a peer-to-peer system, which means that each team must play 5 matches in one day. After group matches, two teams from each group with the best results pass to the so-called the knock-out phase in which losers are eliminated from the tournament. Each of the matches lasts 20 minutes. However, in the knockout phase, in a draw situation penalty kicks are ordered: first three series, and in the case of no settlement - one series for each team until one of the teams win.

Group phase without losing even one goal

In the group phase the 12-player Warbud's team won all the matches. The players did not even lose a goal. 'In the quarter-finals we fought a dramatic fight with Aurore Team,' says Jarosław Pasik. The match ended with the result 2:2 and Warbud won it only after a successful series of perfectly performed penalties. Michał Białkowski defended the decisive shot of the opponents giving his team a chance to play in the semi-final.

A final with a thrill

In the match for promotion to the final, Warbud defeated Africa Team 4: 1. The match was not an easy one despite the high score. It was decided only in the second half,' reports Przemysław Ocalewicz. In the final, our footballers played against SF Team representing Soletanche. The result was not decided within the basic match time ending with a 1:1 draw. A series of penalty kicks was to decide about the winner. 'The basic penalty series proved to be insufficient - all players from both teams scored goals. Finally, in an additional series, Michał Białkowski defended his opponent's shot and then Bartłomiej Jasek defeated the SF Team goalkeeper and gave Warbud victory. Without a doubt - I am proud,' said team captain Tomasz Gajewski with high emotion.
