Warbud takes part in the Young Construction Engineer and Young Architect's Day

On May 16, 2017, in Warsaw's cinema Multikino Złote Tarasy educational workshops took place for students of architecture and construction as well as for construction professionals - architects and engineers of various disciplines. Warbud, a strategic partner of the programme 'Builder for the Young Engineers' presented its own experience in a case study and expert panel. The event gathered more than 600 participants from all around Poland.
Biggest construction challenges
The initiative of the monthly 'Builder' allows students in understanding better the industry and the society in which they would soon start their professional careers, to choose areas of expertise as well as to find out more about the expectations of the market. Thanks to that initiative it will be easier for them to start their professional lives. One of the experts to share their professional knowledge about construction was Mr Bartłomiej Nowakowski, production preparation manager at NOSPR construction site.  He talked about exceptionally high technical requirements, highly complex solutions and technologies utilised in the project as well as how acoustic aspects dominated the construction process of the seat of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and the resulting technical regime of the project. The young participants were really breathless.
The expert panel
At the same time in the foyer of the cinema Mr. Mariusz Janikowski, project manager in the construction department of Warbud's Medical Construction Division together with Mr. Paweł Nowakowski, head of Warbud's Technical Office Planning and Scheduling Department ran individual expert consultations with, as it turned out, very well prepared and exceptionally ambitious students of technical universities almost from all around Poland.
'How to get to you?',  'What does it really look like?',  'Do you work on construction sites or only in the office?', 'How to direct my professional career?', 'Do you use BIM systems in your projects?', 'Where does Warbud have its largest sites now?', 'Do I have any chances of employment after finishing my traineeship programme?' - There were innumerable questions and our specialists were really busy answering them. The competition they had prepared turned out to be a real challenge. The questions regarding construction were correctly answered only by three students. 'The target has been set very high,' said Mariusz Janikowski. 'But we really need such events, they are indispensable. They allow future architects and engineers to discover the potential of the industry and start their professional lives. The youth have a potential, they are keen to work and show a lot of enthusiasm to explore the wide spectrum of opportunities offered by the engineering profession. As a construction company we want to and have to use that enthusiasm, especially now when employers suffer from shortage of skilled professionals, especially high quality staff. Our traineeship and internship programmes are a good starting point for them and our meeting has met its purpose.'
Questions about internship programme curricula, recruitment methods, employment and professional development opportunities were answered by Ms. Edyta Rytel and Ms. Iwona Kotlińska as well as by employees of the Company's Public Relations Department. In this year construction companies were invited for the first time to present their achievements nest to architects. 'I am really impressed by the number of people present and by the involvement of the young people who have come from all around Poland to meet the presenters. Warbud was very popular, especially among third and fourth year civil engineering students. We will soon see how those numbers will translate into the number of applications. Usually reaction is significant and immediate,' reports Ms. Iwona Kotlińska of Warbud's HR Department.
Other opportunities of the engineer and architect profession were also presented by the programme's partner companies such as  Mostostal Warszawa, Budimex or Fundamental Group, Pracownia APA Wojciechowski, Warsaw University of Technology Chair of Structural and Infrastructural Designing / ARCHBOX, Gdansk University of Technology and PERI Polska. A lot of time was devoted to practical aspects of using BIM technology - there presentations of its applications and development perspectives.
