VINCI Immobilier has delivered the Cité du Cinéma, a new centre conceived by Luc Besson and dedicated to the “Seventh Art”. Covering all aspects of the French film industry, this complex of 62,000 m2 will, among other things, have 9 film studios, workshops for building film sets, training areas for the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière, a film theatre, an arcade, space for the service sector as well as communal services, shops and a restaurant.
Line 3 of the Cairo metro was opened on 21 February 2012. This first phase includes five underground stations (Attaba, Bab el Shaaria, El Geish, Abdou Pasha and Abbasia) and serves the eastern part of Cairo from the city centre. Once completed, Line 3 will cross the Egyptian capital from east to west, from the airport to the districts west of the Nile. The development of the Cairo metro system is part of a large-scale plan aimed at serving the transport needs of the Greater Cairo area up to 2022. It will help to reduce pollution in Africa's largest metropolitan area.
A special anniversary ceremony took place at the Marriott Hotel in Warsaw on February 3. Over two hundred guests - representatives of the VINCI Group's 11 companies in Poland had an opportunity to learn about the policies, strategy and values of Warbud’s main shareholder.
VINCI Construction Grands Projets was recently awarded the first phase of the contract to upgrade drinking water supply and treatment for the town of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, by the NWC (National Water Commission). The contract is worth €51 million. The work involves laying 19 km of pipes and upgrading two water treatment stations. WMI, subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, will be responsible for optimising management of the network. The works will start early April 2010 and will last 24 months. They will be followed by a second phase that should be definitively awarded to VINCI Construction Grands Projets before the summer of 2010.
VINCI has been organising the Innovation Awards competition every two years since 2001. The competition invites all the Group's employees throughout the world to present their innovations in order to reward them, make them known and facilitate their dissemination. All the Group's employees compete in 11 regions: seven in France (North, West, South-West, South-East, Rhône-Alpes, East, Paris Region), three in the rest of the world (Northern Europe, Central Europe, International Europe) and one centralised region (Central Activities).
